..Frequently Asked Questions

Q. I have seen a Refurbished Old Pine floor in a magazine or at a friends house, Can you guarantee our floor will look like there floor.

A. This has been publicised for this very reason and for those that have blamed us for the overall look of there floor, Old Pine floors no matter where they are or how they can be imagined are still old floors, Sure some sand up beautiful and clean but others may not, There may be shading around the edges caused by Bitchumin, Sunlight, Leaks, spills and any number of differn't things may have happened on the floor over the years, stanley cuts from where carpet is layed are sometimes very deep and will not sand out, unless we sand the boards until they are too thin, Saw cuts from plumbing work, can be fixed by replacing the boards at an extra cost, But stop there. Some floors can be well over 100 years old, Surely the fact that these floors are still here should be enough, let alone once refurbished far out value a new hardwood floor.

Yes we can make the best of what you have already got ,but we cannot make them new again, Most people realise this and are happy with all the discrepenses of an old floor, but some don't seem to realise this, A well known complaint is: My floor looks nothing like the floor you sanded for my friends,
Im sorry, that im afraid is your friends floor, the same people sanded and sealed it, but im afraid your floor has

1. Bitchumin around the edges

2. the sunlight has bleached areas around windows where curtains havent been shut at nights at some time in 100 years, The early morning sun has the most effect on wood floors causing discolouration.Tip close your curtains at night.

3. In Bathrooms we often find yellowing around the toilet area and no that doesnt always sand away completely either.

No two floors are the same, and most our customers realise that, there are just a few that don't.

Q. What Guarantees do you give with your finishes.

A. Our Finishes ie Laquers and Hardwax are covered by manufacturer guarantees, Polyurethanes are guaranteed not to peel ,fade or crack under normal use. Hardwax oil is Guaranteed not to peel.

Q. Will the seal on my floor be guaranteed against denting

A. The seals we use are duroelastic ie they are flexible. Which means they will not give a hard glaze finish and will not make the flooring any harder, On all flooring, Especially softwood ie Pine, Douglas fir it is advisable to use felt pads and Plastic floor cups to help with denting.

REMEMBER SKIRTING WILL NEED RE-TOUCHING AFTER STAINING!
